Abstract for "Advanced Hybrid Battery Chemistry for Portable Power"

EaglePicher Technology has developed a high capacity D size primary lithium cell using CFx/MnO2 hybrid cathode. The cell delivered twice the energy density of Li/SO2 or Li/MnO2 and operated efficiently in wide temperature range. Calorimetric and skin temperature measurements revealed that the hybrid cells generated less heat at high discharge rate compared to 100% CFx. Furthermore, the CuVMnO cathode material developed at EaglePicher Technologies, with improved kinetics and discharge capacity over MnO2, offered the opportunity for next generation CFx hybrid chemistry.
