6T Battery

 EaglePicher’s 6T lithium ion battery

has been designed to conform to all of the physical dimension requirements of MIL-PRF-32143, “BATTERIES, STORAGE: AUTOMOTIVE, VALVE REGULATED LEAD ACID (VRLA)”.

Both 12V and 24V battery designs employ a lithium/iron phosphate electrochemistry for improved cycle life and added safety margin over other conventional lithium ion batteries.

Our 24V 6T solution delivers over 60 ampere hours of capacity and our 12V 6T solution delivers over 120 ampere hours of capacity, both providing over 1000 charge/discharge cycles.  These solutions result in high energy and power systems with superior cycle life.

6T Battery Management

Safety is a major concern when charging Lithium Ion cells. Providing proper charge control for the battery system will mitigate safety concerns and extend battery life. Safeguards are provided to terminate the charging process in case of an over-charge condition.

EaglePicher’s 6T BMS uses an embedded microcontroller set to monitor the various battery and cell parameters thereby providing oversight for the safe operation of the lithium ion cells.

Communication BUS

EaglePicher’s 6T battery designs employ CAN Bus protocol for status reporting through a serial connector located on the top of the battery. 

Battery Protection

The BMS is designed to provide sufficient cell oversight and system protection such that the possibility of cell failure becomes extremely unlikely. The following fault conditions represent abnormal operation of the battery and will provide exit criteria from the normal operational modes:

  • Battery Terminal Voltage – Reverse Polarity
  • Battery Over-Current
  • Unintended Bulk Charge
  • Low Battery Temperature
  • High Cell Temperature
  • Low Cell Temperature
  • High Cell Voltage
  • Low Cell Voltage
  • Balance Charge Duration
  • Internal Communications Loss

Capacity

Our 12V 6T design delivers over 120 ampere hours when discharged at a C-rate in an ambient air environment of twenty five degrees Celsius, and can withstand a minimum of 1000 cycles at an 80% DoD while retaining 75% of its original capacity.

Cold Crank Current

30 second current pulse of 1000 Amperes at -18°C while maintaining 7.2V or better.  

Operating Storage Range

-20°C to 60°C. The battery can withstand storage temperatures from -46°C to 71°C.

Cycle Life

Minimum of 1000 cycles at an 80% DoD while retaining 75% of its original capacity. 

24V Gen 1 6T

Nominal Voltage

26.4V.

Capacity

62.4 Ah when discharged at a C rate and in an ambient air environment of 25°C.

Cold Crank Current

30 second current pulse of 800 Amperes at -18°C while maintaining 14.4V or better.  

Operating Storage Range

-20°C to 60°C. The battery can withstand storage temperatures from -46°C to 71°C.
